Captain (Retd) Prof Dr Ole Boe serves as a Full Professor of Organization and Leadership at the School of Business at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN). Prof. Boe is the first academic in Norway to be qualified as a full professor in military leadership. He served as an Associate Professor of Military Leadership at the Institute of Military leadership and Operations (IMLO) at the Norwegian Defence University College in 2017 and until August 2018. There he led the research project: Operational leadership. He has previously also served as an Associate Professor of Leadership and Leadership Development at the Department of Leadership and Tactics at the Norwegian Military Academy from 2003 until 2016.
He received his Ph.D. in Psychology in June 2000 from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. He has previously served as the Norwegian Armed Forces representative in NATO´s RTO panel HFM-ET-104 on mental training. Prof. Boe led the Norwegian Military Academy´s largest research project: Character in military leaders from 2014 until 2017. He has been responsible for developing the Norwegian Military Academy´s concept of stress management and for preparing officers both physically and mentally for combat.
Prof. Boe has been the author or co-author of over 285 different publications on topics such as judgment and decision making, leadership, leadership development, education, mental and physical reactions to combat, stress and coping with stress, selection, personality traits, character strengths and simulation-based training.
He has served as a member of editorial and reviewer boards for more than 40 international conferences. He has served/serves as a member of the reviewer/editorial board for journals such as Military Medicine, Military Psychology, Journal of Defense Management, Necesse, and Small Group Research. Prof. Boe has previously served as an operational officer for many years in a Norwegian military special unit conducting VIP protection, hostage rescue, and close combat training. He graduated from the Norwegian Defence Staff and Command College in 2007, he has served on several international operations all over the world, from Congo to Cambodia, and has served as an instructor for several Special Forces units and Special Police units in a number of countries.
