WORKSHOP 1 – VR-based psychotherapy for combat-related PTSD: opportunities and challenges

Silviu Matu is a young researcher and an assistant professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at Babeș-Bolyai University, in Cluj-Napoca Romania. He is working in one of the most advanced research platforms in virtual reality and robotics-based psychotherapy, the PSYTECH-MATRIX Platform for Robotics/Robotherapy and Virtual Reality Therapy at the International Institute for the Advanced Studies of Psychotherapy and Applied Mental Health (http://psychotherapy.psiedu.ubbcluj.ro). He is conducting research on the integration between technology and psychotherapy with the aim of improving mental-health services.

VR-based psychotherapy for combat-related PTSD: opportunities and challenges

 Description of the workshop:

The workshop will offer some key insights on how technology, mainly virtual reality (VR), can be used to deliver mental-health interventions for soldiers and other patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The general therapeutic approach of the workshop will be grounded in the cognitive-behavioral case formulation. The workshop will include an in-depth analysis of the current progress and the future challenges faced by this field of research and practice.
